Description: Rethinking Discipline Strategies to Improve Climate (9 a.m.-12 p.m.): Behavior problems clearly disrupt teaching and learning. Because of this, discipline and classroom management are daily topics at every school. Increasingly, however, concerns have been raised about inequities in applying consequences for misbehavior, and there is a growing appreciation of how traditional approaches to discipline can have a negative impact on school climate. During the session, participants will gain a better understanding of how discipline policies and practices impact school climate and be provided tools that can be used to enhance discipline policies to improve school climate. Appropriate audience includes district and building leadership, school board members and/or school administrators.

Foundations of Restorative Practices (12:30 p.m.-3:30p.m.): This session will provide an overview of restorative justice principles and theory, restorative practices in schools, implementation guidance and a review of resources. Appropriate audience includes district and building leadership, lead teachers, school support staff and/or school administrators.

The ceremony will be held at the Mall of America in Parkview which is located in the Southwest corner of the Nickelodeon Universe between Flyover America and Hard Rock Cafe. You may check in as early as 9 a.m. to pick up your entrance wristbands for the 10 a.m. ceremony.

Please report to the designated waiting area outside of Parkview 20-30 minutes prior to the start of your pre-registered ceremony.

PLEASE NOTE: There is no seating in the waiting area before the ceremony time. It is standing room only. Description: This conference is a celebration of the Reading Academy readings and assignments. Participants will be treated to a keynote speaker and sessions on best practices and strategies in literacy as well as time to review the readings. The main focus in our strategies and best practices will be Academic Vocabulary. Each Reading Academy has the participants read a new reading list and is developed around a key reading component, which is Academic Vocabulary for the Nov. 15 session. This allows participants to earn their Continuing Education Units in Reading Academy more than once a year because the content is completely different each time.
