Description: Best Practices for the 2018-19 School Year!
As teachers and school leaders, we are always looking to innovate and grow. It is essential that we try new things to add to our pedagogical bag of tricks. It's also important to focus on purpose and intentionality - not on quantity. What really matters more than "always trying something new" is the reason behind why we do what we do. Spend a day studying Hattie’s top effect size strategies to change and improve what and how we teach - the strategies we will study and practice are: Assessment Capable Learners, Teacher Clarity of Learning Intentions, Teacher-Student Relationships, Classroom Discussion, and Meaningful Feedback.

Description: Structured Teaching is the foundation to classroom engagement. It is creating systems for students to be independent and increases the level of engagement by providing the visual clarity and structure to the student day, segments of the day (such as teaching time, independent work) and to the work the student needs to complete. It focuses on generalization of skills in other environments allowing the student to function independently with visual and structural prompts versus requiring a person to provide verbal prompts. Utilizing the elements of Structured Teaching sets the stage for staff to implement other evidence based practices and best practice instructional methods for people on the ASD spectrum and other disabilities.

Goals:
-Gain an understanding of the components of structured teaching strategies
-Identify the three basic elements of structure and their benefit to students
-Understand how to use structure to design a daily schedule, work system, and tasks
