Description: Cognitive Coaching? is a process, a set of strategies, and a way of thinking that supports the ongoing development of individuals and organizations, as they become increasingly self-directed and reflective. Its mission is to produce self-directed persons with the cognitive capacity for excellence both independently and as members of a community. Self-directed people are self-managing, self-monitoring, and self-modifying. The results are stronger individuals within a team and better organizational teams overall.
Cognitive Coaching? transforms conversations, and as such, is a powerful approach to enhancing teacher performance. At the heart of this training is the concept that we all have resources that enable us to grow and change from within. The person being coached, not the coach, evaluates what is good or poor, appropriate or inappropriate, effective or ineffective about his/her work.
Cognitive CoachingSM gets to the core of what actually impacts teacher learning and growth: teacher cognition. Rather than attempting to “fix” isolated teacher behaviors, this approach enhances the cognitive processes that produce those behaviors. Coaches support and enhance long-term sustainable growth for teachers and success for their students.
