Teams of school and teacher leaders are encouraged to attend and learn about the program requirements and how they align with the teacher development and evaluation (TDE) initiative. In addition to learning about the Q Comp program and application process, participants will consider how Q Comp funding may help leverage additional professional growth opportunities and strengthen evaluation systems for teachers. This is a great opportunity to raise questions, challenge assumptions, and seek clarity directly from the MDE staff who lead both Q Comp and TDE. This session is appropriate for all districts and charters that are thinking about applying for Q Comp.

Participants will leave with useable and reproducible templates for conducting informal student observations, goal writing, and behavioral progress monitoring.

Description: Google works fine for answering certain questions, but truly effective researchers need to know that it is just one of many tools available. Library databases are another. Library databases provide authoritative content – often from publications not available via search engines. They allow researchers and students to learn from experts in their fields of study and dig deep into topics of interest to come to truly new understanding. The Electronic Library for Minnesota (ELM) is a tax-supported collection of library databases available statewide that contain magazines, newspapers, journals, video, and more. Join this one-day workshop to discover how ELM can help your students and researchers go beyond Google to conduct better research online.

Who should attend: Teachers, school librarians, public librarians, and other educators.

Please bring a laptop or tablet, if possible. The workshop will include many hands-on elements.

Presenter: Matt Lee is a librarian with Minitex at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. He provides outreach and instruction on the Electronic Library for Minnesota (ELM) databases, and works with many different groups of people across the state, from librarians to classroom teachers, and middle school students to employment counselors. Maybe one day he’ll find a group who gets his jokes.
